Vintage Thursday

As I put away the Christmas decorations, I found something vintage to post about today.

When I was growing up we loved to spend time at Grandma Ruth's house.  Whether it was shopping, eating out or just sitting around the kitchen table we loved being with Grandma.  She had neighbor named Myrna who we spent a lot of time with.  Myrna was even my babysitter when I was very young.  I also remember that she was a excellent baker.  People would hire her to make birthday cakes and cookies.  Secondly, she could sew anything but what I remember most is the dolls she repaired.  She would remake the bodies of China dolls and then make new clothes for them.  Oh, how I wish I had paid more attention to what she was doing.

As Myrna aged, she was not rich and just got by on Social Security.  She didn't have a car, so my Grandma took her places or her son took her.  Since she didn't have money for gifts, she started giving us items from her home.  Above is the Christmas tree pin she gave me for either a birthday or Christmas one year.  Added to it later, was the pair of earrings to match.  So each year after Thanksgiving I get out my Christmas tree pin and enjoy it through the holiday season and think of Myrna and Grandma Ruth and all good times.

I hope you have something vintage that gives you warm memories, too!
