Monday Design Wall

Baby, its cold outside!  The wind is blowing about 25 miles an hour with light fluffy snow and about 25 degrees outside.  We are tucked inside for the day.  First, I had some very ripe bananas that I needed to make into banana  bread. Done!

Second, my husband starts his two weeks of night shift tonight.  (He got called off for last night and we watched the Super Bowl.)  The guys on his shift like treats so before Christmas I sent my husband's favorite bar cookie, butter chewies.  The guys loved them.  So I wanted to send a treat with him tonight and had all the ingredients for butter chewies on hand.  They make the house smell so good.

This weekend I was able to spend a day and a half at a small quilt retreat at our church.
This is a picture of part of the group of ladies who attended.

We had a little show and tell by Cathy, see her peeking out from behind the top.  She will be quilting this quilt for a friend.

Sylvia made this on Saturday and I brought it home to quilt for her mother-in-law.

Corry has been on a mission to finish UFOs.  This windmill quilt is full of signatures and she figures she started it around 2009.  It is king size and now ready to be quilted!

She also brought this Thimbleberries quilt and found out the top was finished.  So she pieced the backing out of the leftover fabrics.

Last, but not least is my project.  This is a panel from our trip to Shipshewana, IN this past summer. My friend, Kathy O and I are planning this quilt and working on the design and blocks together.
I apologize for the quality of the picture (its a picture of a picture) as didn't take a picture before packing up to go home.  I received the picture from Cathy K.
This quilt will be lap size when we are finished.

Thank you to Corry for all the planning and thank you for all the fun "quilty sisters".

Now that I am finished with writing the blog, the sun is shining!  What's on your design wall?

Friday Finishes

A couple of weeks ago had a few sew days with my "quilty" friends from Illinois, Iowa, Indiana and Wisconsin.  Betty J. couldn't be with us but she sent 4 charity quilts.
Below is my favorite of the four.  It is a cheater panel that looks like blue work.
Its adorable!

Below, is my little pony and Betty has made several of these.
There are some very lucky children who will get these wonderful quilts.
Kathy D. and Barb O. are patiently waiting for the distribution of the
mystery project parts, below.
Below, is my mystery project.  I made to tablerunners,
one large and one small.  I chose my border fabric and will
add it later.
Below, is Barb O. finished top.
Isn't is unique!
While we were sewing up a storm,
we had our first snow storm outside.
About 6 inches fell overnight.
Everyone posing for a selfie with me.
Kathy C. was working on these make-up bags for Christmas.
This is the Quilt of Valor that I was working on.
Wanda S. was working on this baby quilt.

Carol O. was working in this Little Red Button quilt.
Carol O was also working on Row by Row blocks.

Tammy has been working on this wedding quilt at the
last two sewing days.
Tammy used Pimga pens to transfer information about the wedding,
guest's wishes, and on the back the wedding vows written by
husband and wife.

Mary was working on this Quilt of Valor for her husband.

Susie was very busy back in her corner.

Have a great weekend and hope you have a productive weekend.

Fulton Retreat

About a week ago I was arriving at Susan's Calico Creations in Fulton, IL.  This is a three story quilt and furniture store along with being a retreat center. Four times a year Susan has a group of quilters retreat with her.  If there is interest in a new technique, Susan or one of us teaches the others. Otherwise we just sew, shop, and eat. Each  their turn at cooking and/or meal prep.

Above is the quilt I finished before I left.

When I arrived many of  the gals had settled in and started their projects.  This is Mera's project.  She spent Friday evening sorting values and color families.  This was the NO FAN zone (like a no wake zone when boating).  Can you manage her frustration if someone knocked this large assortment askew?

Here is the progress she made.  It is awesome watching her design this quilt.  She was using a peep hole or reducing glass, a red tinted plastic viewer or the camera.
Here is Susie beautiful finish quilt.  Beautiful quilting by Carol Onken.

Above isSusie's new finished quilt top.  She was busy all weekend making a stunning backing for this one.  Below is Sheri's finish.  This is a scrappy quilt is a wedding gift for her niece.
Below is  Carol's scrappy log cabin and she quilted it on her longarm.
Below is Cathy Kieser's beautiful Easy Street finish.  Don't you just love those borders she designed.  She had extra four patches and set them on point in the second border.  You can catch a peak of my Easy Street blocks laying on the floor next to Cathy's.  I was close to finishing all my blocks but I was short a few bricks of white on black.  It is now finished after the retreat and needs borders.

Unfortunately, I find that I did not take as many pictures as usual.  I missed Karen's Paisley Embroidery quilt and Cathy's Plaid quilt along with others.  My mind was half with my dad in the hospital and half at the retreat.  So glad for cell phones and kept in touch with him each day.

Terry
