Friday Finishes

Just a quick post with two finishes.  First is a cheery baby quilt for a little boy that has already arrived.

Each quilt teaches me something or reminds me of a previous lesson learned.
This quilt has bias borders.  When I went to baste the edges down of the side borders, it let me know that I need to baste going down on one advance of the quilt.  Then the next time I advanced the quilt, I had to baste from the belly bar up.  This prevented the quilt side-borders from becoming stretched and/or twisted.
The backing is Shannon which makes it super soft and cuddly.

The second quilt is a breath of fresh air during these gray winter days.
This is a fractured quilt.

Have a great weekend!

Terry

Friday Finishes - Eye Candy Friday

I am getting my whoop on today!  Doing the Happy Dance!  I have completed all the quilting on quilts for Christmas.  The last one goes home this afternoon.  So let's see those pictures, please.....

First up, is a baby quilt with dimensional geese.  The customer requested all over stippling.  She had been turned down by several longarmers as their hopping feet would get caught in the flying geese.  I knew the Glide foot would float right over the edges of the dimensional geese, so I said yes to quilting it.
The video doesn't work below, but it gives a view of the Glide foot that is cupped so there is nothing to catch on quilt as it is stitched.  The picture also gives a better view of the dimensional geese.

My wonderful hubby is the official quilt holder.

Second is this lovely modern quilt by Bekah.
I really like her color choices.
This is Bekah's mother's Christmas quilt.  Mom just recovered from breast cancer so they are having a very blessed Christmas.

Below is the last quilt to go home for the Christmas season.  This lovely quilt will be keeping Sylvia's granddaughter warm.
A view of the texture on the back.
The thread is Omni Mulberry.
The quilting pattern is Ginger Snap by Apricot Moon, purchased through Intelligent Quilting.

Below is the best quilt I have worked on all year.  It is the second totally custom quilted quilt I have done.  This year Handi Quilter released an update to their Pro Stitcher software and I had to learn to run my machine all over again.  After working with the program through the summer and early fall, I loaded this quilt and worked on it for six weeks.

Threads used on this quilt were Signature Graystone (in gray areas), Omni Cream and Omni Banana.
Thank you to my customer, Anita, for her patience.  Anita has been such a blessing to my longarm business.  She has gently pushed me to keep trying out my skills on her quilts.  Also, I received long distance assistance from Elaine Gilmore in Georgia and Melissa Kruschwitz in Florida. Elaine is the Handi Quilter National Educator that trained me to use the new Pro Stitcher update as well as providing on-going support.  Melissa took the layout of the bottom border that I sent to her by email, put it in Art N Stitch and connected the corners and emailed it back.  I will be taking some online training with Melissa in the near future to learn how to manipulate the patterns and layout a whole quilt on the computer before stitching.  My goal for 2016 will be learning Art N Stitch to improve and expand my quilting skills.

Enjoy your weekend and do your happy dance!

Friday Finishes-Bello! Minions

This week I am excited to show you two finishes but only one picture.  I finished matching Minion quilts.  They are identical so I am only posting pictures of one.  They are good sized measuring 73 1/2" x 79".
I used Bananna Omni Thread and Frisky Feathers pattern.
They go home at 9am this morning.  I am down to three more quilts before Christmas.  My goal will be to post all three of those next Friday.
We have had some beautiful sunrises and sunsets over the last couple of days.  This was yesterday's sunrise out my back door.

I hope you have a wonderful and safe weekend.  We have had a house fire down the street and two bad car accidents that have killed young mothers leaving behind young children.  Remember each day is a gift.  Tell your loved ones how much you love them!  Life is precious. When I hear stories like this, I wish I had a pile of quilts that I could walk over to and pull out a quilt to give each child that just lost their mother.

Friday Finishes

A couple of weeks ago we attended a beautiful wedding of my friend from my job at Bath & Body Works.  I made her a table topper and found a pretty glass vase to match.

The quilting pattern is Frisky Feathers.  It is quilted with gray Signature thread.
The same weekend I attended the wedding I took the Star Table Runner class from Libby Smith.  The pattern is out of the book Not Your Grandma's Log Cabin (which should be back in print by C & T Publishing in September). The blue topper is Kathy Olson's.
Love the batiks both of these are made from.
The red star is made by Maribel Kern.
Thanks for sharing your pictures, ladies.

So here are the latest pictures of Tucker.  Now you know why he has this name.  He is little and you can tuck him in your robe.
Harry is a great entertainer and babysitter.

Trying to show how small he is.  He weighs 2 lbs.
Look who fell asleep while I was writing this blog.

My goal this is weekend is to finish this quilt top.
Headed to Susan's Calico Creations in Fulton for a sew day.

Have a great weekend.  We have a break in the rainy weather here.  It is a cool 59 degrees and sunny this morning.  Last night I got the horse barn cleaned out and mowed the lawn so my chores are done and I can head out for Fulton.

Friday Finishes & Libby Smith Coming to our guild to lecture and teach

Quite a few quilts have gone home since my last Friday Finishes post.

This is a nap quilt made by my customer, Kelly.  Her father lives in Florida and covers up with a beach towel for his afternoon snooze.  He will now have this snazzy safari quilt to snuggle under.

If dad gets a quilt, then mom needs one also.  Mom's quilt is lady-like with a floral print and rose garden quilting.

My customer, Stephanie, made this cute sewing themed quilt.  I found an adorable thimble quilting pattern for it.

This is another of Stephanie's creations.  Love the warm yellow and gray prints.

This is Stephanie's star quilt.  This one is about queen size.  Its quilted with YLI confetti thread.

This tumbler lap quilt was made by Gloria.

This lovely gold winter quilt went home and I forgot to get a full picture.  It turned out so good using gold Glide thread and a simple snowflake pattern.

This is my own quilt that is ready to come off the quilt machine.

This is a t-shirt quilt by Joan.  Joan appliqued the t-shirts to the whole clothe quilt instead of using sashing.  We used a simple meader allover the quilt top.

I am excited to announce that Libby Smith will becoming to Princeton, IL, to give her trunk show on Stenciled Quilts on Friday, June 5th at 7pm at the Evangelical Covenant Church on South Main St.
On Saturday, she will be teaching the Log Cabin Star Table Topper from Not Your Grandmother's Log Cabin book.  Libby is a certified Marci Baker instructor and we are excited to have her share her quilt stories.  If you are interested in joining us the class fee is $25.  You may email me for further information at quiltcrazie@msn.com.  I'm so excited about this class.  I have completed a tumbling blocks quilt in the past and love the quilt on the front of the book.  I am looking forward to learning the technique on the Log Cabin Star Table Runner before attempted a bed-size quilt.

Libby will also be teaching at Susan's Calico Creations in Fulton, IL, on Sunday, June 7th.  At Susan's she will be teaching Fireworks, another pattern from Not Your Grandmother's Log Cabin book.  You contact Susan to join her class at 815-589- 2221 or email at susancalicocreations@hotmail.com

Friday Finishes

Its been a very busy, productive week.  Monday, I spoke and provided a trunk show to the Fair City Quilters in Sandwich.  Tuesday, Harry Potter, my Australian Shepherd, and I spoke to the kids at Tiskilwa Library for the after-school program.  Visiting the library may become a regular fun thing for Harry and I .  Its so much fun to see those young minds working.

I also got some baking done for meals and made cookies for the social hour at church.
I am heading out to visit with my retreat friends in Fulton today and I will also be taking oatmeal raisin and chocolate cookies for a snack.

Here's my finish for the week.  This blue and brown scrap quilt pattern is call Keep Kids Warm by Ami Sims.  It is a free pattern on her website.

Here's a close-up.  I used a quilting pattern called Star Spangled B2B.  The thread is Robinson Anton brown.

I used my scraps across the back to lengthen the backing fabric.

Saturday I will be teaching beginning quilting and free motion quilting at the Fair City Quilt Guild.  I prepared muslin and batting pieces for the students to make fabric sandwiches to practice on.

Supplies ready, pins, 505 spray, marking tools, stencils, quilting gloves, etc.

Congratulations to Anne B.  Your quilt is featured on Link a Finish Friday on Richard and Tanya Quilts.

Have a great weekend.

Yours in quilting,
Terry
