Friday Finish-Poppies

Today's finish is a bright, vivacious poppy quilt brought to me by Stephanie.  I used 3043 Golden Haystack or also called Barley.  It depends if you bought the thread under Quilter's Choice or Omni brand name.  The thread was just dark enough to show up on the pale gold polka dot blocks and a lovely accent to the rest of the quilt.  I particularly like how it showed up and gave texture to the red outer borders.  The Golden Haystack made the back of the quilt sing with happiness.
Above is the back of the quilt while still on the longarm.  The pattern is called Tole Painting.

The other finishes I have this week are a few blocks for the quilt Gotcha Covered.  It is a wall hanging size quilt of a covered bridge.
Headed to our local library to assist with a sewing machine cleaning day.  Our guild sponsors it each year.  I will be taking my little red wagon with me to carry in the machines from people's cars.
This weekend is very busy around here as it is our "Homestead Festival".  The weather is cooperating and has cooled off.  Will be having my Haines machine checked out today.  I suspect they will have to take it back to the shop, as it is probably more than they can do today.

Enjoy your weekend whatever you decide to do!  I will be linking up with Patchwork Times, Link-A-Finish Friday, and Crazy Mom Quilts.

New Quilters

I belong to Garden Club at Quilter's Garden in Princeton, IL.  The Garden Club meets once a month.  Currently we are working on Legacy BOM.  It is a beautiful sampler style quilt in navy blue, red, browns and tans.  It will finish queen size, but I hoping I can additional blocks to an additional border to make it large enough for our bed. ( I don't like when the quilt is too small and the husband rolls over stealing all the quilted covers.)

Each month we receive the pattern for the Legacy (you can participate and buy a kit) or make it in your own color variation.  We also received a pattern to use a panel in the middle and use additional 2.5" scrappy borders to make a Halloween quilt.  It was so bright and quick to make.  There was a lesson on how to use the Boot ruler for bindings to get the perfect angle on almost any size quilt.

Last but not least is show n' tell.  The cutest little girls,  Addy and Eme ,showed their first quilts made with Grandma Gloria.  They used "Papa's" jeans for the top and fabric of their choice for the backs.  They made raggy quilts and the girls stitched the "X's" through the middle of each block and then sewed the blocks together.  I was sitting in the second row while taking pictures, so sorry for a bit of the person's head in front of me.  I cropped out as much as possible.  The glee on the girl's faces is adorable.  I hope these girls will become life time quilters.

Vintage Thursday

I am trying to link with the Colorado Lady's blog today.  She has a Vintage Thingie Thursday and below is my first vintage post.  Please stop by and visit Suzanne and view the other bloggers who have linked up with their vintage items.

In decorating for fall, I wanted a night light at the top of the stairs.  I don't like getting up to go to the restroom and not be able to see.  Trying to be creative along with decorating for fall, I bought the lighted branches that you can display alone or along with a floral arrangement.  In the tubs of decorations I found these floral stems and dug a little further for a container.  I found this old milk tin that was about the right height.
I was pleased with the results and its just enough light when you get up in the middle of the night.  It gives a sense of satisfaction when you can re-use something on-hand and the price was right.

Headed out to see Jodi Barrows today.  She is giving a trunk show at Quilter's Garden.  Enjoy your day!

Working On Wednesday

I am working on Country Threads BOM 2013.  So for September here are my fabric choices.

The left side of the picture is the brown, tan and green for the 12 inch block.  The double pink and floral cream print is for the 6 inch block.  I am getting so excited that 9 months will be done.  I am so proud that I have stayed on top of finishing the blocks each month.  Already have the backing fabric so it wont' take too much to finish and quilt this.

I tried to finish this blog post be for going to have a pedicure and nails filled, but have had major computer issues this morning.  I even made sure I got up early so that I have plenty of time, but oh no things did not go my way.  I spent about 45 minutes on the phone with Frontier and we could not determine if it was the computer or the connection.  So I took off for the nail salon to cool off for a while.  After relaxing in the massage chair during the pedicure, I came home to see if the Computer Genie ( my son) might have fixed the problem.  No luck there.  So ran up to my local computer store where I bought the computer and they were able to hook it up to the Ethernet cable or wireless.
I headed back home and the Ethernet cable now worked at home, also.  Called Frontier and they remotely hooked up with my computer and TaDah, its fixed.

Even though the day started out a little rough, I was able to accomplish a few things:
1.  Pedicure - check
2.  Nails filled- check
3.  Computer working and blog written - check
4.  Sewing therapy - Starting now, in progress.  Will post the blocks when I get them done.

Have a great evening.  Remembering and praying about 9/11 today.

The Reveal of Old Glory

This Old Glory quilt went home Monday.  It is quilted with Star Spangled b2b by Anne Bright.
I used Glide Gold thread on the top and navy Quilter's Choice in the bobbin.  I had a little trouble with poppies on the back.  I worked and worked on the tension.

Tuesday Tip:  I learned yesterday in longarming class that if you use a rough thread such as I used in the bobbin and Glide, a slick thread, on top this can cause the tension problem.  I fixed it the best I could and had tiny poppies on the back.  They will disappear once the quilt is washed.  The quilt is stunning in person but was hard to show its real beauty in a picture.

Thank you Stephanie for bringing quilts that challenge me.  I learn something from every quilt.

Hornbaker Gardens & Going Away Party

Ran out to Hornbaker Gardens at 9:45am, hoping to beat the crowd.  We got a cloud burst of rain just before leaving town.  Kathy and I had stopped into Wal Mart for a few things so we just sat there and let it rain.  We were afraid we would melt. Haha! Its been so long since it has rained here, that we sat there and stared in amazement.

We didn't see anyone on the way out to Hornbaker's but that must have been because they were all behind us.  The flow of traffic was constant from the time we arrived.  We visited the Artisan Vendors and enjoy the wide variety craftsmen:  authors, painters, photographers, wood working, metalwork, baking, jewelry, and organic foods.

I had been following the progress of the Flour House on Facebook.  Today Terri and Sally debuted their cookies, breads and scones.  On the left side of the picture is a Butterscotch Cashew bar and the right side is an Cherry Cream Scone.  Both delicious as you can see there is a bite missing.  I had to taste test them for you.  Yummy.....can't wait for them to open on North Main Street so I can be a regular customer.

Headed out to a going away party for my cousin, Rex Johnsen, and his wife, Brenda.  Our son, Aaron is the DJ.  I made my Confetti Cole Slaw for my dish to pass. ( I will post the recipe later. )

Stay cool and have a wonderful weekend.
